susana
Susana is a pioneer in the field of prevention and self-care. She founded the first adjunctive health care clinic in Northern California in 1976 and has taught and mentored other movement and healthcare professionals. With a focus on supporting the medical and therapy community, she has used meditation, yoga, and movement as healing arts with a wide range of demographics. Some of these include chronic pain patients and patients of physical therapists, structural practitioners, psychotherapists, and massage therapists, and chiropractors.
She is a meditation and certified yoga instructor with an emphasis on hatha yoga and the philosophy of the Yoga Sutras and other Vedic teachings, which have been an integral and important part of her therapeutic practice since 1974. She was fortunate to have attended the last structural integration basic training class taught by Ida Rolf, PhD, in 1974 and completed advanced practitioner training in 1980. She is a registered/certified hypnotherapist and is also a yogini and student of Pandit Rajmani Tigunait in the Himalayan tradition.
MSP is Susana's life work, stemming from a deeply-rooted passion for teaching people to achieve harmony on all levels. Following an automobile accident that left her with a debilitating low back injury, she began seeking ways to restore her body's alignment and relieve the intense pain she was suffering. This led to an organic, visionary synthesis of her earlier experiences that eventually became the foundation for MSP, a virtual tool kit, which she began teaching to others. After decades of working with people, she found that the skills for wellness and prevention she was using and teaching could be interwoven into a simple restorative self-maintenance system. This could then be easily taught and duplicated by students as well as wellness and fitness professionals to implement in their practices.
Passionate about creating community, positive results, and doing what works, Susana has worked extensively with Veterans. This work began in the post-Vietnam era and has continued through to today's Veterans, having created a system of techniques for those with TBI, PTSD, and meeting the challenges of transitioning back into civilian life.
In her relentless commitment to teaching seekers how to take the next step on their journey, Susana emphasizes deploying love, humor and joyous laughter philosophy, common sense, and storytelling as her most effective tools.
